TRI Ventures, parent company of Aquent (the world’s largest specialist creative digital and marketing recruiter with offices in seven countries) and Scout (a unique software company that helps search firms and recruiters fill positions) is looking for a Director of Privacy to lead across all areas of global privacy requirements for our business units in Australia, Canada, France, Japan, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, and United States.

This role leads our established privacy and compliance team. You will be tasked with the enhancement and monitoring of our data privacy program and the specific requirements of the EU GDPR and the California Consumer Protection Act (CCPA). Given the global nature of our business, we are looking for someone with U.S. and global (particularly E.U.) privacy and compliance experience, ideally with responsibility for policy creation and execution, international data transfers, cloud computing, information governance, and privacy by design.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience of managing compliance requirements, confident in dealing with senior stakeholders and an understanding of regulatory needs but able to work on their own initiative and really make this role their own. There is lots of scope for growth and development, with the support of an established global brand and experienced team behind you.

About the role

  • Serve as the subject matter expert in Privacy Management principles, practices and regulations.

  • Establish a privacy governance structure across privacy design, processing, data destruction, and reporting.

  • Create and maintain an inventory of sensitive information data sources.

  • Monitor and assess data handling policies and procedures from creation through to destruction and develop improvements.

  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of domestic and international data privacy laws and regulations, ensuring policies and practices meet legal requirements and operational risk tolerances.

  • Work cooperatively with our established security and IT teams.

  • Enhance internal privacy training and awareness.

  • Assist in the review and negotiation of contracts with clients, suppliers/vendors, and others alongside legal staff.

  • Advise on privacy and data security issues related to new products and services.

  • Manage relations with individuals and regulatory authorities across notices, inquiries, complaints and disputes.

  • Coordinate with other departments and group organizations to maintain an effective breach management program.

About you

  • Proven experience of global and EU privacy and compliance management.

  • Desire to enhance a global compliance program.

  • Strong research and writing, analytical and communication skills.

  • Able to communicate and collaborate effectively with both non-technical and highly technical individuals across different departments.

  • Confident in prioritizing busy workloads

  • Experience in reviewing contracts, dealing with regulatory regimes, and auditing practices would be beneficial.

  • Certification in the field of privacy, such as by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), or in a related field would be beneficial.

  • Interest in AI and machine learning and ethics by design.

A few other thoughts

  • A strong background in operations is key for success in this role.

  • Someone who thinks in concrete terms won’t be happy or successful in this role. You must be flexible and comfortable working in grey areas.

  • You must have the ability to influence and be persuasive but an ability to compromise is key.

  • There’s no room for ego in this role.
